Barb (Mom) has been helping breastfeeding families since before Faith was born and also before the formal IBCLC profession was born! She took the exam for the first time in 1993 and has re-certified every 10 years since, except for taking it early in 2011 to sit the exam with Faith.
In the years before 1993, Barbara was a La Leche League Leader, doing her training via snail mail with one of the founding mothers of LLLI and became certified as a League Leader in Germany in 1977. She later served as a Leader in Philadelphia, PA and in Killeen, TX. Being a military family, they moved every 2-3 years, so with 6 moves, there were 6 babies.
Faith is Baby #5 and during her growing up years would have probably been voted least likely to follow in her mom's footsteps, if there was ever a vote. Yet in the years leading up to sitting for the exam in 2011, much to her mom's surprise, she sought out her own training and began working at WIC and the Woman's Hospital of Texas. She has continued to expand her training in the years since and was Master Class certified in 2020. Her knowledge, compassion, and ability to connect with families has blessed many lives in the past 10+ years.

Karina comes to us with vast experience in postpartum family health having served as a Home Health Visiting Nurse with the Family Connects program in Bastrop, TX for several years before relocating to the Houston area in 2021.
Prior to that she has worked as an ER nurse.
And most remarkably, she served 2 tours in Iraq as a Combat Army Medic/EMT. Let that sink in. She gave several years of her life to serve our country....ALL of us.
We feel like there isn't anything Karina can't do. We have watched her in action as she has taken on breastfeeding families to assist in our practice, and we can say unequivocally that she cares for each person with all of her heart and is most happy when she is connecting with families, teaching them and supporting them in multiple ways with their new parenting adventures :)
Karina is also Master Class certified and is always eagerly seeking more education so that she continue to better serve the families who come to us at TLC.

WHY RENT A PUMP WHEN YOU GOT ONE FROM YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY?!
Because the Medela Symphony generally works better to establish a good milk supply when the baby isn't able to do the job or when the mom has other issues that impact her milk supply. It is the pump most hospitals use.
Most moms get MORE MILK in LESS TIME with MORE COMFORT with the Symphony than they do with their "insurance pumps."
Once supply is well established and/or baby is taking over the job, then you can generally switch back to your insurance pump.
DO YOU NEED TO RENT
A BABY WEIGH SCALE?
The Medela BabyWeigh Scale measures breast milk intake to the tenth of an ounce.which can be helpful in certain situations such as when babies are transitioning from bottle feeding to exclusive breastfeeding, for babies who have weight gain concerns or who always seem hungry after feedings or who just "live" on the breasts, or perhaps for babies who have other medical issues. Getting an accurate picture of what is going on is the first step to taking necessary steps to correct problems. An IBCLC can guide you in the process of making improvements but some families like to do an initial assessment on their own before scheduling an appointment to check if they have a real problem or a perceived one. The scale doesn't lie.
The scales you can reasonably purchase only measure to the half ounce which isn't accurate enough for measuring intake

WE CAN HELP! THERE ARE ANSWERS!
Aetna? We are in network! Generally up to 6 visits are pre-approved with nothing or little out-of-pocket for you (please note though that plans do vary in what they cover/require).
BCBS, UHC, Cigna:? We partner with a company that will try to get your insurance company to pre-approve at least 3 in person or telehealth visits
It is a very simple process to find out if your insurance will pay:
1. Please copy, paste & click on this link:
Go.lactationnetwork.com/
TexasLactationConsultants
It will open up a short form for you to complete about your insurance coverage.
2. You and we will be notified usually within a few hours, if your insurance has pre-approved the visit.
If your insurance will not cover the visit(s), we are still happy to help you....we just like to make it as cost effective for you as possible! But the cost of the visit can literally pay for itself within a month or so compared to the cost of paying for formula (and that does not even factor in the loss of health and convenience benefits for moms and babies).
Our cash pay discount for lactation visits not paid directly by insurance are as follows:
Initial visit - $195; Follow Up visit - $165.
All home visits regardless of insurance coverage do include an additional travel fee that varies depending on how far you live from our Houston Heights office ($25-60).
